Group payment: one boat booked, everyone pays their share

How group payment works at Go2Boat: organiser, shares, reminders, what happens when shares are missing and where refunds go.

By Go2Boat · updated October 24, 2026

A catamaran for eight friends, a motor yacht for two families: most weeks on a boat are booked by groups – and almost always one person pays everything and then collects the money. With Go2Boat's group payment, everyone pays their own share.

How it works

  1. One person books – the organiser. They choose the boat and dates like any booking.
  2. They invite the others by link. Shares are split equally or freely, for example when a couple takes a larger cabin.
  3. Everyone pays with their own card and sees only their own share.
  4. Everyone sees who has already paid, and latecomers get automatic reminders. Nobody has to chase anyone by phone.

Who the contracting party is

In the boating trade each contract has one person as the hirer. That is why the organiser alone is the contracting party of the provider. They stand in for shares that are not paid; they confirm this when booking. It sounds strict, but it is the reason the provider accepts the booking this way at all.

The first payment: within the option period

How long the provider holds the boat for you depends on their option period. During that time the group pays the first instalment. 12 hours before it expires, the organiser is asked to pay the shares still open. If they do not, the option lapses – and all shares already paid are refunded automatically in money, to the card they were paid from.

The balance: by the payment plan deadline

Shares of the balance are due by the payment plan deadline. Seven days before, everyone who has not yet paid gets a reminder. Anything still open after that is charged to the organiser.

Refunds

Refunds always go to the card that paid – never as a voucher, never to another person. Whoever paid their share gets their share back in a refund.

Tips for organisers

  • Agree on the split and cabins before booking; shares can be set freely.
  • Send the link right after booking, while enthusiasm is high.
  • Bear in mind that you stand in for open shares – choose travel companions you can rely on.
