What is included and what costs extra? Mandatory extras, options and costs on site
Final cleaning, linen, skipper, fuel, berths, tourist tax: what is in the final price, what is added on site and what to ask before you book.
By Go2Boat · updated October 24, 2026
Nothing annoys guests more than a price that suddenly grows at check-in. That is why Go2Boat shows the final price from the start: rental plus all mandatory extras. It is still worth knowing what belongs to time on board and where costs can arise that depend on your trip.
In the final price: rental and mandatory extras
Mandatory extras are items the provider charges on every booking – often final cleaning, sometimes bed linen and towels, a starter pack (gas, cleaning products) or a fee for the boat's papers. What applies to your boat is shown in the price breakdown. If a skipper is mandatory and costs extra, that is in the final price as well.
Listed separately: what is paid on site to the provider
Some providers charge certain items only on site, at check-in. On Go2Boat these items are listed separately and are not paid through us – but you see them before booking, so there are no surprises.
Optional: the provider's extras
What you can add is offered by the provider, not Go2Boat: skipper, host, provisioning, equipment such as a stand-up paddle or an extra tender, deposit insurance. Chosen extras with a price are added to the final price.
What depends on your trip
Some costs nobody can put a figure on in advance, because they depend on where and how you sail:
- Fuel: on motorboats usually by consumption; on sailboats usually little for the engine. Many providers hand over the boat full and expect it back full.
- Berths in other harbours: if you do not anchor, you pay in harbour – noticeably in high season.
- Buoys and protected areas: some national parks and buoy fields charge fees, for example for buoys overnight.
- Charges by country: some countries levy tourist taxes or fees on boats and guests; whether they apply and whether they are included, your provider will tell you.
Not in the price: the security deposit
The deposit is not a price but security. You lodge it directly with the provider, usually at check-in, and get it back if there is no damage. The amount is shown on the boat.
Five questions before booking
- Which items are paid on site?
- How is fuel charged?
- Is linen included, and how many towels?
- What does the skipper cost, and how are their meals handled?
- How much is the deposit, and is there insurance for it?
