Method: Go2Boat Season Index and Barometer

What we measure, where the data comes from and when we publish something.

Every figure is measured or labelled as a Go2Boat forecast or Go2Boat estimate. Third-party figures appear only as sources, with publisher, date and link. Anything below the minimum sample sizes is not shown.

Go2Boat climate index «best time on board»

Daily values of the last 10 years at one sea point per region: maximum wind at 10 m, wind direction, sunshine hours and sea temperature. A strong-wind day has a maximum wind of 20 knots or more. The index from 0 to 100 combines the share of days without strong wind (40%), sea temperature (30%, from 18 to 25 °C) and sunshine hours (30%, from 6 to 12 hours).

Named winds: a strong-wind day from the north-west counts as a mistral day in the mistral regions, from north to north-east in Greece from June to September as a meltemi day, from the north-east in Croatia as a bora day.

Measuring points

Search interest

Relative Google Trends values per region and country of origin, averaged per calendar month. Only a region's seasonal pattern is read (when interest peaks); regions are not compared with each other on these values. Data source: Google Trends (https://www.google.com/trends).

Qualitative findings from booking signals

Analysis of availability and demand signals from the connected booking systems and our own data, only across whole regions with at least 8 boats from at least 3 providers. Only statements without figures are published, each checked and approved by the Go2Boat office.

Own data

Anonymous searches on Go2Boat in the last twelve months (published from 2000 searches, shares only) and our own bookings (from 30 bookings). No individuals, no single boats or providers.

Surveys

Partner survey among providers and agents on Go2Boat; answers without names, published only from 30 answers, always with the number of answers and the period. A representative survey by an institute is named with the institute, sample size and period.

Publication schedule

Season Index every January (first edition 2027 as a starter study), Barometer monthly from January to September and quarterly in autumn, Pre-season Report in March, Season Review in October. Every edition is checked by the Go2Boat office before publication.
