The most beautiful bays in Corsica – Rondinara, Santa Manza, Palombaggia and more

Bays in southern and western Corsica from our anchorage finder: which way they open, when they are sheltered and which rules apply to anchoring over posidonia.

By Go2Boat · updated November 1, 2026

Corsica is an island of contrasts: granite and maquis, long beaches in the south-east, steep coasts in the west. For a day at anchor the wind matters most. Here are bays from our anchorage finder, which way they open and the authority that regulates anchoring. Bays marked «Hotspot – suggestion» have not been checked by our office yet; the skipper always decides.

The wind decides

On the west coast and in the Strait of Bonifacio westerlies such as the mistral and libeccio are frequent: bays opening to the east, between Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio, are then calm. With an easterly, the west coast is the better choice.

Between Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio

  • Rondinara – Hotspot – suggestion. Almost round bay with a narrow entrance to the north-east.
  • Golfe de Santa Manza – Hotspot – suggestion. Deep gulf open to the east, the usual shelter in a mistral or libeccio.
  • Palombaggia – Hotspot – suggestion. Beach open to the east and south-east.
  • Golfe de Pinarellu – Hotspot – suggestion. Open to the east.

West coast and Gulf of Ajaccio

  • Cala d'Orzu – Hotspot – suggestion. South shore of the Gulf of Ajaccio, open to the north-west.
  • Golfe de Roccapina – Hotspot – suggestion. Open to the south-west.

Anchoring over posidonia

Posidonia meadows are protected in France; anchoring bans apply to large yachts. The Préfecture maritime de la Méditerranée publishes the rules and maps.
